27-03-08

Golf Course back to Championship Standard An £800,000 investment has resulted in Northop Country Park's Golf Course being returned to championship standard.

The major developments at the par 72 course have been launched by former Wales and Everton skipper, Kevin Ratcliffe.

Work carried out has meant a full drainage overhaul of the course. There is also a new buggy path, new holes, extensions to existing holes and new all-weather tees.

I'm delighted that due to the intensive work carried out, we'll now be able to enjoy a great game of golf throughout the year said Ratcliffe, a member at the club. The course is set in a wonderful location and there is always a friendly atmosphere in the Club House. The new developments at the course will certainly offer golfers a number of new challenges
The major improvements at the course are just the start of an ambitious programme by local owner, Darren Norman, which aims to see Northop Country Park flourish. The plans include a golfing centre of excellence set within the 247-acre country park.

Founded in 1993, the park's golf course opened in 1994 and immediately hosted the Welsh PGA National Championships before going on to play host to a number of top amateur events and regional competitions.

We have a vibrant membership and the club attracts members from North Wales, The Wirral and Chester area explained PGA Professional, Berwyn Lewis Members are already commenting on how much more enjoyable and challenging the course is proving. Everyone here are justifiably proud of the fact that following this substantial investment we can now lay claim to being one of the best golf courses in the region ENDS
